As Easter Nears: A Call to the Cross

As Easter approaches, many of us feel a shift within our hearts and minds. This season brings reflection, renewal, and hope. It’s a time imbued with deep significance, where the core themes of sacrifice and resurrection promise new beginnings. Easter encourages us to look closely at the cross—an emblem of profound love and grace. As we celebrate this significant event, we are invited to explore what it truly means to give our lives to Christ.

The cross is more than a historical artifact; it represents a choice to embrace a transformed life through faith. In our ever-changing world, it reminds us to reconsider our relationships, priorities, and spiritual journey. As you navigate this season, reflect on the meaning of the cross and how a commitment to Christ could enrich your life.

The Symbolism of the Cross

The cross is not merely a religious symbol—it’s a confrontation. It confronts us with the weight of sin, the depths of love, and the magnitude of grace. It tells a story of a Savior who stepped down from glory to rescue those who had no way of rescuing themselves. It tells our story. The cross stands as a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice, reminding us that Jesus chose to bear the weight of humanity's sins out of love. Each nail, thorn, and drop of blood unveils a story of grace that surpasses human understanding.

This symbol inspires introspection, urging us to consider the burdens we carry daily. Many of us are weighed down by guilt, shame, anxiety, and uncertainty. The cross invites us to release these burdens and seek liberation in Christ. Easter is about resurrection—but there can be no resurrection without death. And death requires surrender. Easter approaches, take time to ask yourself: What do I need to surrender to find peace?

The Call to Surrender

Responding to the cross means surrendering our lives to Christ. This requires courage as it involves letting go of our need for control and trusting in something greater. Surrender may seem daunting, but it brings liberation. Imagine the freedom of letting go of worries that hold you back.

Jesus didn’t just die to inspire us. He died to save us—from ourselves, from our sin, from separation from God. The cross was not a mistake. It was a mission. And He accomplished it, fully and finally, so that you and I might live—truly live—in Him.

Surrendering to Christ allows His light to illuminate our darkness, guiding us toward healing in every aspect of our lives. Jesus said:

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

The Resurrection: A New Beginning

Understanding the concept of resurrection can inspire us to embrace change. It signifies potential and reminds us that no situation is beyond improvement. Each year, more than 2 billion Christians celebrate Easter, highlighting the collective hope found in new beginnings. As Easter approaches, reflect on your own life: Where do you see potential for resurrection?

This invitation to new life promotes reflection, encouraging us to identify areas where we might feel stagnant or unfulfilled. Christ’s resurrection encourages us to boldly step into the future, filled with hope and assurance that we are not alone.

Embracing the Journey

An invitation to consider the cross is a call to embark on a journey—a relationship that deepens over time. It means coming as we are, with our imperfections and struggles, and allowing Christ to guide us in a transformative experience. This journey is not solitary; it is enriched by community.

Being part of a supportive group of believers provides strength and accountability. Engaging in Bible study, prayer, and worship fosters an environment conducive to spiritual growth. Seek connections with others who share the message of the Cross and resurrection.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." -Hebrews 10:24-25

Reflecting on Your Commitment

So, as Easter approaches, I urge you: look at the cross. Really look. Let it break your heart and heal it in the same breath. Let it stir something deep inside of you that can no longer be silenced by distraction or dulled by routine.

If you’ve never given your life to Jesus, let this be the season you say yes. Not just to a Savior, but to a King. Not just to forgiveness, but to transformation. He gave everything for you—will you give your life to Him?

You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You simply need to come—broken, honest, willing. And He will meet you with mercy, with love, with new life.

The tomb is empty. The King is alive. And He’s calling you—by name.

Will you come?

Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." - John 6:35
